Mini Knife Magnacut

Our new miniature carving knife is made from the newly developed CPM Magnacut steel. The knife has a hardness of ~60hrc and is stainless, but still has an incredible toughness and excellent edge retention. It holds its edge much longer than ordinary knife steel and will never rust when working in green wood. The handle is made of thick masur birch that can be recarved as needed to suit your hands. The back of the blade is rounded for more comfortable push cuts, and it allows you to burnish the wood smooth after carving.

Sharpening this knife is is no different from any regular knife, however with diamonds or cbn sharpening abrasives it gains a slightly better edge retention. We recommend that you strop with 8000 grit (3 micron) diamond paste. You can do this about five times before resharpening the knife with a 1000 grit (~20 micron) paste or fine stone. The hollowgrind will last for a very long time but can be reground with any regular grindstone.

CPM Magnacut steel is a newly developed powder metallurgical steel by Dr. Larrin Thomas. This steel is groundbreaking for stainless steel in that it doesn't form any large chromium carbides that make the steel brittle. Instead it has only vanadium carbides that are much smaller and harder, giving it unmatched toughness and edge retention. Pair that with a custom cryo heattreatment and a superfine hollowgrind makes this probably one of the best carving knifes ever created.
